Groups seek support for National Bladder Health Month measure

8/2/2016

A measure in the U.S. House of Representatives would make November 2016 National Bladder Health Month. Backers are urging people with bladder conditions to email their congressional representatives to support the measure.

House Resolution 703, introduced on April 26 by Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), was backed by the American Urological Association, the Urology Care Foundation and the Bladder Health Alliance, a coalition that includes the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. To let legislators need to know that this is an important issue, people with bladder conditions are being asked to send personalized messages to their congressional representatives to ask them to cosponsor H. Res. 703.

Resolution supporters are being asked to personalize an email message by including information that relates to their experiences living with their specific bladder health condition and how it negatively affects their quality of life. Visit the American Urological Association’s website to alert your federally elected representative on this important healthcare matter. Additional information on H. Res. 703 is also available.

Tens of millions of Americans struggle with a variety of bladder health conditions that affect health and quality of life, resulting in significant health costs (estimated to be more than $70 billion per year). Medical and behavioral research to better understand and maintain bladder health, and to treat bladder conditions, is critically needed – yet is neglected and underfunded compared to other health research efforts.
